The View from the Front Desk
I have never known of anyone who didn’t like a good improvement story. Books and movies that feature a main character who is initially caught in unfortunate circumstances but who, in the end, becomes prosperous or happy, are perennial favorites. “Before” and “after” photos of homes that have been remodeled, or people who have gotten into shape or have undergone makeovers, are inspirational for everyone who hopes to achieve similar results in their own lives. Having been an administrative assistant at The Molever Law Firm for the past eight years, I have been privileged to witness a steady stream of improvement stories in the making.

Why Estate Planning is for YOUNG Parents Too
Although I never like to think about what would happen to my children if something were to happen to my spouse and me, it is important that I do, both for my sake and especially for the sake of my children. As a mother of three minor children (ages 8, 5 and 2), not only do I believe it is my responsibility to care for them while I am alive, but I also believe it is my responsibility to ensure they are cared for upon my death.

Does your life insurance make YOU a millionaire?
Most people who carry life insurance policies with sizeable death benefits would not consider themselves millionaires. However, at death, the IRS will consider you a millionaire if you die owning a large life insurance policy. Why? You probably heard the life insurance agent sell the “tax free” death benefit to your beneficiaries. However, the agent likely failed to mention that life insurance proceeds are only income tax free. Life insurance proceeds are not estate tax free! The entire death benefit is included in the estate of the decedent.

Posted On 6/29/2009
The sudden death of Michael Jackson serves as a reminder to everyone that, no matter your age, you need to have your estate planning in order. The pop superstar died on Thursday, June 25th at 50 years old. The media is speculating as to how his estate will be handled and the future of his young children. No public statement has been made in regard to his personal planning and the media and the nation will wait anxiously to see how this unfolds. If Michael Jackson prepared a Trust the public will most likely never know the details as it will be held private, however, if he had a Will it becomes part of public record. In the state of California, a Will needs to be presented within 30 days. Jackson's assets, royalties and the amount of debt he had accumulated most likely will lead to lengthy battles over his estate.
